BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month Virtual Series
ACC’s District Clinical Counseling Services will be offering 3 virtual discussions on the topic of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Mental Health Awareness. July is BIPOC Mental Health Month and was created to bring awareness to the unique struggles that underrepresented groups face in regard to mental needs in the US. These discussions will focus on current issues impacting the wellness and wellbeing of communities of color.

In recognition of BIPOC Mental Health Month, ACC District Clinical Counseling Services will host a virtual live panel discussion for the ACC community on the topic of racial trauma. ACC clinicians will discuss what racial trauma is and its impact on the wellness and wellbeing of ACC students. Self-care suggestions for maintaining wellness related to racial trauma will also be discussed.

July, 20th, 2021: Destigmatizing & Decolonizing Mental Health in Communities of Color
In recognition of BIPOC Mental Health Month, ACC District Clinical Counseling Services will host a virtual live panel discussion for the ACC community. In this session, Associate Dean of Counseling, Dr. Manuel X. Zamarripa, LPC will discuss the current reasons why mental health services continued to be stigmatized in communities of color and suggestions to help de-stigmatize. In addition, Dr. Zamarripa will discuss the importance of decolonizing mental health to help the field become more responsive the cultures and the needs of communities of color.

July, 28th, 2021 - 12pm - 1pm: The Year of Corona: Communities of Color and Mental Health
In recognition of BIPOC Mental Health Month, ACC District Clinical Counseling Services will host a virtual live panel discussion for the ACC community. Local community clinicians of color will address the social and emotional impact of living through the last year during the current Coronavirus pandemic. Although the pandemic impacted all communities, we will discuss the impact on communities of color, especially related to the racial tensions over the past year. In addition, suggestions to prepare for going back into the world after Corona will be discussed.
