ACC honors Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 to October 15 with a series of virtual events. Events are free and open to the community. Please check back here throughout the month as more events are added.

16 de Septiembre Fiesta | Noon – 2 p.m.

Join us for a virtual celebration to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. This event features an appearance by Latin Grammy nominee Mireya Ramos from Flor de Tolorache and the Mexican Consul will give El Grito. There will also be trivia games and prizes.

Tuesday, September 21, 2021 - Pride, Intersectionality, and the Struggle for Democracy

“Pride, Intersectionality, and the Struggle for Democracy: Hispanic Heritage Month in 2021” | 5 – 6:30 p.m.

In this keynote event, Dr. Paul Ortiz, author of An African American and Latinx History of the United States, will discuss the historical and contemporary role of coalition-building across communities of color as well as how we can recover better for a more just and sustainable world.

Miercoles De Música: An ACC Mexican American Studies And El Centro Brown Bag Lonche Event | Noon – 1 p.m.

Bring your lonche and join local musicians Beto Martínez (Lechehouse Productions, Brownout, y más), Stephanie Bergara (Bidi Bidi Banda), and Marco Cervantes (Mexstep, Third Root) for a discussion of the current and future state of the Latin music scene in Central Texas.

After watching Who Is Dayani Crystal?, join ACC Mexican American Studies, Humanities, and Film Studies professor, Dr. Jean Lauer for a conversation with director Marc Silver. Presented by ACC’s INDS: Mexican American Studies Program and El Centro in celebration of ACC Latinx Heritage Month and sponsored by Cine Las Americas.
